Your Travel Guide On Packing A Suitcase

November 16, 2007

When it comes to packing for a trip, some people just don’t know how to and they end up stuffing their suitcases with too many items that end up not being used on the actual trip itself. It is important that you learn to pack the essentials. With these travel packing tips, packing lightly will not be that hard.

The first step would be choosing the right luggage or suitcase to pack in your travel essentials. Good, quality luggage is an investment which could last you for more years to come. You would want the contents of your luggage to be protected right? If you want to ease your shoulders the burden of carrying a bag, then choose luggage with wheels for easy transport.

If you are in a hurry after you disembark from the plane, it is advised that you carry on your luggage. In this manner, you save time from waiting for your bags on the conveyor belt or you don’t risk losing them (although this rarely happens). Carry on luggage though has dimension restrictions which vary from airline to airline. This means you have to pack less and if you have kids with you such will not be a good option. If you have to check in luggage, make sure that you label them accordingly and remove unnecessary tags in order that it won’t get lost and it’ll arrive to you safely.

Cancun Travel - The Best Vacation Of Your Life

November 16, 2007

Cancun, South East Mexico. A tropical place of beauty, history and relaxation. Located on the Yucatan Peninsular in the state of Quintana Roo, Cancun is very different to the rest of Mexico and is split into two main areas - Zona Hotelera (an 18km long island) and Ciudad Cancun (the mainland.) Both of these areas are connected together with a causeway, making access very easy via taxi, bus or even just walking.

Zona Hotelera faces the Carribean on one side and has a lagoon (the Laguna Nichupte) on the other. Most of the people live on the mainland (Ciudad Cancun) which is also where the hotels and resorts are located. This has meant that the Zona Hotelera hotel is quite free from mass commercialization in many respects. Cancun also offers some of the best diving and snorkeling spots in the world, which includes the fifth largest coral reef in the world (The Belize Reef) that has black coral (coral lovers will know that black coral is quite rare.)

There are also plenty of water sports for the person who enjoys a vacation with a bit more action. The selection of excellent resort hotels, classy restaurants, local pubs and bars and a large night-life with clubs makes for a great holiday spot for all kinds of people. Shoppers will enjoy the shopping facilities (five large shopping centers, or street shopping.) For those who want to relax a little more, Cancun’s lagoons, sandbars, mangrove swamps, cenotes (waterholes) and beautiful beaches are what you would be looking for.

Tips And Suggestions On Car Rental

November 16, 2007

There are several things that you need to be aware of if you plan to rent a car for your vacation.

There are many car rental agencies that would be more than willing to conduct business with you so you don’t have to worry about where to rent. The choice is up to you as to whether you will be choosing the services of a national franchise or a smaller car rental company. It is just important to bear in mind that you know you are dealing with a reputable agent when you can select from a wide selection of cars whether it is compact economy ones or the luxury types. The cars should be in good shape and have the basic features like power steering, air conditioning, automatic transmission and others. The car rental company should also be able to provide options like luggage racks or car seats if necessary. As much as possible, secure important information before you make any reservation.

Most people would want to get competitive rates and the best deal possible so they spend quite some time reviewing major car rental companies. But going through numerous companies can be tedious and time consuming. For those of you who do not have the luxury of time to go through many car rental companies in order to conduct some comparison shopping, you can consider travel related websites to do the price comparison shopping for you. In this manner, you spend less time researching. The disadvantage though is that some travel websites don’t extend the website offers and savings of car rental companies. So basically, it will all boil down to the amount of time you are willing to spend researching or opting for travel related websites instead.

Travel is all about having fun, and Easy Click Travel makes it fun to simply shop for travel. If you travel for relaxation, fulfilment, discovery, adventure and to learn rather than simply to tick off ‘places and things’ then responsible travel is for you. Rediscovering nature Responsible travel is about rediscovering how to experience nature and to be in it, feeling it, smelling it and learning about it rather than just looking at it.

The concept of whether we return to our original time after the travel is irrelevant, as we’ll discuss later on. As examples, if the purpose of your planned travel is recreational in nature, including tourism, amusement, visits with friends or relatives, rest, medical treatment, and activities of a fraternal, social, or service nature, then a visa (B-2) would be the appropriate type of visa for your travel. As additional examples, if the purpose for your planned travel is to consult with business associates, travel for a scientific, educational, professional or business convention, or conference on specific dates, settle an estate, or negotiate a contract, then a business (B-1) visa would be the appropriate type of visa for your travel.

The Beautiful Beaches of Queensland

November 8, 2007

Queensland’s beaches rank right up the top with the best beaches in the world, with visitors flocking from every direction to enjoy the long white coastal stretches and shimmering waters. From Coolangatta through to Daintree in the far north, you are guaranteed a taste of paradise. The ideal choice of travel is by campervan, as you have the freedom and flexibility to stop as long as the waves are rolling and the sky is blue. There are plenty of caravan parks dotted up and down the Queensland coast, ideal to be used as a base to swim and explore.

Growing up in Queensland, I spent most of my holidays on the Gold Coast, and today’s favourite tourist beaches were my playground. Coolangatta, located about half an hour from Surfers Paradise, has an esplanade perfect for small children to paddle, and is also a popular meeting place for surfers. Further up is beautiful Burleigh beach, known for its pine trees lining the sand. Although a lot more populated than all those years ago, this is still one of the premier beach locations on the coast.

Nobbys and Main beaches are long and inviting. There is plenty of space for families, surfers and sunbathers. Sunrise is one of the favourite times to enjoy the salt air and meet the early morning walkers, populating the shoreline up and down the coastline. Surfers Paradise is the most famous and known as the tourist strip for obvious reasons. The beaches are fantastic and excellent for surfing, but I would stick to the local beaches just to get some towel space.

The Sunshine Coast beaches have a more relaxed pace, Maroochydore being my favourite. With excellent surfing beaches, ideal caravan parks (Cotton Tree is one of the best) and large shopping centres you could spend weeks here and always have something to do. Alexandra Headland is one of the most popular locations for surfers, with breaks to be found along most of the coastline.

Noosa Heads is one of the most well known destinations on the north coast, with an abundance of holiday choices. There are four beaches, the most popular at Hastings Point for swimming and surfing. Tea Tree and Granite Bay are more suitable for experienced surfers. From Hastings there are some easy beach walks taking you around the headland to a lovely beach alcove. The beach is the heart of Noosa and every walk seems to wind back to its sandy stretches.

Once you start the trek up to Cairns and beyond, you need to plan your itinerary and then take the plunge as there are a lot of miles in between. However, the rewards are priceless, with exquisite pure white beaches waiting for you. Close to three hours from Brisbane, Fraser Island is the world’s largest sand island, with the equally beautiful Rainbow Beach a complete destination in itself. The advantage is that crowds are smaller and the beaches are endless, the perfect place to escape.

Halfway between Cairns and Townsville is an undiscovered paradise, Mission Beach. There are not many places where the sun shines every day of the year (well almost) and the rainforest meets the sand and coconut palms. Combined with the pristine, flat beach and rippling waves you have the ideal tropical holiday.

The beaches just north from Cairns are unique and unparalleled. The most famous is Palm Cove, offering something for every type of beach holiday maker. There is a long jetty for fishermen, plenty of water sports, tall palm trees lining the entire stretch of beach and a number of restaurants and shops when you need a break from the sun. Surfers may have to venture elsewhere, such as Yorkey’s Knob where half metre waves are delivered which still a bonus for this region.

Trinity Beach is another favourite with locals and tourists and easily accessible from Cairns via the Captain Cook highway. The Cairns esplanade now features a large lagoon ideal for families, and a great retreat for those who would prefer to base themselves close to the city.

Heading further north to Port Douglas, Four Mile Beach is one of the last of Queensland’s jewels. This is remote and beautiful, with the palms common to this area combine to create the perfect holiday destination. Although this area is common to stingers there are nets in place so you can still enjoy a swim.

Whichever location you choose, you will have to keep coming back to make the most of the sun, surf and sand in Queensland greatest treasures, its beaches.

Sexy Undiscovered Travel Destinations

November 8, 2007

Not all travel destinations are packed full of tourists. In fact, not all of them are even on the map. I have had an interest in these “secret” places since I first discovered two little lakes high in the hills and cliffs north of Ishpeming, Michigan. No trails even lead to these, and there was a trout on the line ten seconds after the cast.

Other travel destinations are not so isolated, but they are still generally overlooked by most tourists. This was true of Yelapa, Mexico when I went there in 1981. The beaches were uncrowded, you could buy fresh fish for dinner from the fishermen in the afternoon, and a palapa (thatched-roof house) rented for about $100 per month. The surrounding jungle had waterfalls you could swim under. No roads lead there, but there was a daily boat from nearby Puerto Vallarta.

Yelapa, alas, has been discovered and overrun with tourists now. Often being one myself, I have nothing against tourists. But when the crowd gets too thick I prefer the more secret places. Here are some examples of a few of these travel destinations that are still undiscovered.

Storm Lake

Anaconda, Montana is a fun destination by itself. You can rent a room above the Harp and Thistle Pub for $140 for the week (as of August 2007) and be within walking distance of at least ten casinos with nickel slot machines, as well as a new brew pub and restaurant (Rocky Mountain Brewing). Two blocks away, the Washoe Theater, considered one of the most beautiful in the country by the Smithsonian Institute, charges just $4 for a movie, and 90 cents for a small popcorn. A Jack Nicholas-designed golf course (The Old Works Golf Course) is just at the edge of this small town.

If you really want to escape, though, drive 14 miles west on Highway 1. When you see the sign that says “Storm Lake,” turn there. It’s nine miles to the lake (stay left when the road splits), but you may need high clearance for the last mile (although we used to make it there in our Ford Escort). There will usually be a few locals at the lake, but you’ll always find a place to park.

The lake sits at about 8,000 feet, and is known locally for its cutthroat trout. Hike the trail along the right side and on the other side you’ll find the Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness Area. Less than hour up the trail you’ll reach Storm Lake Pass, at the tree line. From here you can continue into the tundra environment of Goat Meadows, or into a seemingly endless wilderness of mountains and lakes. You’ll rarely have any company other than bears, birds and mountain goats.

Alamogordo, New Mexico

This is not at the top of most tourists lists, which is good for those of us that like our travel destinations to be uncrowded. It is a great little town, however, and a great base from which to explore the surrounding area. It is also a nice place to escape the winter, since it rarely snows or gets too cold here.

You can check out the little zoo right in town for a relaxing afternoon. There is also an Imax Theater on the north side of town (watch for the signs), and you probably won’t have any long lines to wait in. On Saturdays from June to October you can visit the Farmers market at the county fairgrounds.

If you want to get up above the desert, drive the thirty minutes or so up to Cloudcroft in the nearby mountains, or go a little further the observatory at Sunspot, or to the Casino in Ruidoso. If you time it right, you can bask in the sun one day in Alamogordo and be skiing the next day at the Cloudcroft Ski Area.

For an unusual destination, you can visit the Trinity Test Site, where the first nuclear bomb was exploded. It is about an hour north of Alomogordo, down possible confusing dirt roads, and it is only open a day or two each year, so you’ll have to do your homework. To the west of town is the White Sands National Monument, with its truly amazing dunes of white sand.

A Guide To Islington London

November 2, 2007

A Guide To Islington London
The finest aspect of Islington is its rich residue of Georgian streets and squares, and this walk takes you through all the best. But it also has more than its share of local entertainment, a fascinating collection of antique shops and a market, as well as a range of restaurants, pubs and cafes. Islington was poor until it was rediscovered from the 1960s, and some parts still are, but rich and poor seem to co-habit here in reasonable harmony.

Islington was always seen as a convenient point for access to town, in the 18C as a place to ride out for Sunday afternoon tea, and later as a pleasant suburban residential area. It possessed gardens and fine views of London as well as the burlesque New River and the beneficial waters of Sadlers Wells. Only in the 19C, after the railways did it become slummy.

Start at Angel station, where you emerge into the noise and bustle of Upper Street. Opposite, across the traffic-ridden carriageways, you immediately see an Islington characteristic, a raised causeway brining the pavement or sidewalk an amenity created when the streets were badly churned up by live cattle being driven to London.

Turn right. You soon reach the beginning of the fashionable antique market confusingly called Camden Passage. It makes its way north along what was the
old High Street, in a mixture of permanent shops with a particularly rich collection in the Mall, a former tramway transformer station and street market stalls, especially on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Briefly turn off to the right at Duncan Street, down to Duncan Terrace and Colebrooke Row. These attractive, balanced 18C streets were developed to run either side of the New River, the aqueduct brought from Hertfordshire in the early 17C (see Chapter 29). There is no sign of the river here now its course converted under a pleasing garden.

Beyond, you see the Regents Canal emerging from its tunnel. To its left runs Noel Road, where playwright Joe Orton lived at no. 25 in the 1960s. Of more historic literary fame was Charles Lamb, who in 1823 moved into 64 Duncan Terrace with his sister Mary.

Lamb (1775-1834) was an essayist, letter writer and critic, and above all a Londoner. Born in the Inner Temple, he lived with his sister at various addresses in the centre of town and later at Islington, Enfield and Edmonton, where he died. He was a friend of Samuel Taylor Coleridge.

William Haztitt, Leigh Hunt and others, and literature was his metier but he also endured a full working life as a clerk with the East India Company, taking, with delight, a pension in 1825. His writings can still be enjoyed in the Essays of Elia which in places, with his letters, can convey more powerfully even than Charles Dickens the essence of the city.

The next on the right off Upper Street after Duncan Street is Charlton Place, with a pleasing crescent down its right-hand side. The heavyweight building to be seen across Upper Street is the Business Design Centre.

Majorca Chosen For Spanish Luxury Hotel Site

November 2, 2007

Majorca Chosen For Spanish Luxury Hotel Site
Europe’s favourite holiday island Majorca is set to have Spain’s most luxurious hotel in Spain on her soil, boosting the island’s image and economy while attracting high spenders, according to news reports recently.

As well as helping the island’s economy directly, luxury hotels, especially on a favourite holiday island to many Europeans and North Americans, will doubtless see Majorca mentioned in the press and on entertainment shows when the stars drop in - already Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones own property in Majorca, as does ex Wimbledon champion Boris Becker, who is understood to be selling one house but looking for another.

The luxury hotel has come about unexpectedly from a project started some ten years ago that ran into financial difficulties, nd it is that will be transformed into Spain’s finest, with the hotel anticipated to open for business some time in 2009 or 2010.

The hotel will be owned by a Dubai company which also owns the well known Burj-al Arab hotel in Dubai, as well as hotels in London and New York.

Siuated in Mallorca’s Port de Soller it is only 10 miles from the Mallorca hotel owned by Richard Branson. In Port de Soller two hotels have marketed themselves as boutiques recently, with Port de Soller and neighbouring Soller aiming to become the lucrative luxury area of Mallorca.

Mallorca as an island has been promoting itself to the UK market recently, with the UK advertising campaign for Majorca including a team distributing information at London’s Victoria Station. Trains from Victoria run several times an hour to London’s Gatwick Airport, allowing easy access to Mallorca for Londoners.

The Balearic Islands of which Mallorca is part consist of three islands, as well as Malloca there is Menorca (the smallest island)and and Ibiza. Menorca has a season that traditionally is at its peak early May to end September, but is now trying to extend that from mid April to mid October.

As part of the Balearic Islands, Mallorca has welcomed many visitors back to live full time on the island. Menorca property has proved popular too, for those looking for a gentler pace of life than big sister Mallorca.

Property prices in Mallorca are similar to Menorca property, with a range of apartments and villas in both rural and town locations, and with twenty golf courses plenty of golf course developments too on Mallorca.

Menorca has just the one golf course, recently extended to eighteen holes, and is located in Son Parc, which has a choice of hotels, apartments and villas for holiday makers.

The cost of flying to Mallorca has come down in recent years from most European countries due to low cost airlines, especially in the island’s core tourist areas of the United Kingdom and Germany, and last year easyJet started direct flights from London’s Gatwick Airport to the sister island of Menorca, as well as serving Mallorca itself.

Despite competition from other destinantions, Mallorca looks set to remain a favourite holiday spot for some time to come.
