Golf - Useful Tips On Golf Clubs

October 26, 2007

You can’t ignore the role of the club when playing golf. Here are some useful tips on golf clubs.

tips-on-golf-clubs.jpgWhen you do hit a shot to the right or left, you may not want it to go as far as if you hit it straight. This is a big selling point for these clubs. But think about it. Ninety percent of the time if you hit the ball left or right of the green you are better off being short than pin high or long right or left. Not to mention, how many greens have slopes on the side that you really don’t want to hit on the fly. A green will hold a pin high shot, a slope, or even just off the green has a tendency to bounce much harder, and send your shot further into trouble. So when you miss a shot, and I never noticed these clubs improve any ones direction, (in fact if you hit the ball a bit on the toe of your blades they have a tendency to draw the ball back in), you’re almost always in a better position for par if you end up short or near pin high than you are long and further away from the green, usually with a downhill slope to the hole instead of an uphill slope.

When you hit a bit of a thin shot with your blades they carry just as far but with a lower trajectory and a lot of spin. Those game improvement clubs if you hit them thin just wave goodbye to the flag stick as they go by, unless you happen to hit the flag. Now if you hit your blades too thin you will be short, but once again that is usually preferable to long. Now the reason for all this is the enlarged “sweet spot” on these new clubs, but you may find that there is actually more variance in distance on a given shot than in your clubs.

Home Turf: Trump National Golf Club

October 25, 2007

IT’S a beautiful place,” Donald Trump said of his Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, about 50 miles west of Manhattan. He considers the links so lovely, in fact, that he wants to reside there in perpetuity.

Last month, Mr. Trump made headlines, at least in the golf world, by submitting plans to a local zoning board to erect a structure on the 525-acre course that could one day become his family crypt. The plan was later withdrawn — Mr. Trump said the timing was premature — but he noted that he had not abandoned the idea of spending eternity on the course. Read more

Anaheim Hills Golf Course

October 2, 2007

This is one of the most hilly and undulating public courses in Orange County. This course was built on rolling hills, but the fairways are primarily level. Seven of the narrow, tree-lined fairways are doglegs, providing for many blind shots to the greens if your tee shots aren’t well placed. Many of the fairways have out-of-bounds stakes along the sides. A creek comes into play on some holes, and a lake guards three sides of the green on hole #13. The most scenic hole on the course is #13, a 207-yard, par 3, with a view of the entire course and surrounding terrain. Another notable hole is #15, a 366-yard, par 4, with an equally scenic view of the course and requiring golfers to tee off from an elevated tee, measuring over four stories in height. Hole #17, a 164-yard, par 3, requires a tee shot from a box forty feet above the green. This course’s greens vary in size, undulation, and at times speed, depending on the direction your putting in regard to the hilly terrain. The facility constructed sixteen new covered stalls for its driving range, along with new mats and balls, in 1996. Their 24-hour tee time reservation line is (714) 765-4653. Friday is considered part of the weekend.
